NEWS... BUT NOT AS YOU KNOW IT

People will be able to catch the Northern Line throughout the night again from this Saturday.

The weekend night tube service was stopped when coronavirus lockdowns were brought in, and has slowly resumed on some lines.

London Mayor Sadiq Khan said today: ‘This is fantastic news for Londoners and visitors who want to enjoy our city’s famous nightlife – and another landmark moment that will help aid London’s recovery from the pandemic.’

It means that there will soon be a night tube service on four lines.

The Central and Victoria lines resumed the service in November last year, while the Jubilee line returned overnight in May.

Transport for London also plans to restart the Piccadilly line night tube later in the summer.

There are have also been Night Overground services between Highbury & Islington and New Cross Gate since December 2021.

When fully operational, the night tube runs on Friday and Saturday nights on the Victoria, Jubilee, and most of the Central, Northern and Piccadilly lines.

As well as adding a night service, there are now more trains running during the day on part of the Northern Line.

TfL said the frequency of trains running on the extension between Kennington and Battersea Power Station had now doubled, with 12 trains per hour in peak times.

Nick Dent, TfL’s Director of Customer Operations said: ’Night Tube provides a safe and quick travel option for all Londoners and visitors looking to make the most of all the capital has to offer in the evenings, and those who need to travel to or from work at night.

‘The summer is the perfect time for Londoners and visitors to take full advantage of London, including its world-class night-time economy.’

Strike action regarding the night tube is planned throughout the rest of the year in a dispute with the RMT union over rosters.

TfL said it was causing ‘very minimal disruption to services’, however.

They said that night buses also run extensively around the capital.

The Northern line Night Tube will serve the Edgware, High Barnet, Charing Cross and Morden branches as it did prior to the pandemic, meaning trains will not run on the Mill Hill East, Battersea Power Station and Bank branches.
